I love the old Johnnys Juniors concerts and TV shows from the late 90’s and early 2000s. There was something special about those older shows when Tackey and Tsubasa, Yamapi and Toma, the Kansai Juniors and the guys from Arashi and KAT-TUN were just starting out. Over the coming weeks we wanted to share some of the harder to get Johnny’s Jrs. footage. A lot of these items were only released on VHS video and are out of print, or were only ever shown on TV. So keep checking back for updates. The planned uploads include:

A theatrical dance and musical spectacular “celebrating Kyoto’s past, present and future.” Features spectacularly staged song and dance numbers and dramatizations of famous scenes from Japanese literature and folklore. Many aspects of this show were the forerunner of more modern productions like SHOCK and Takizawa Enbujou.
Featuring
Higashiyama Noriyuki (Shounentai), reknowned actress Mori Mitsuko, Nakai Masahiro and Katori Shingo (SMAP), Domoto Koichi and Domoto Tsuyoshi (Kinki Kids), Inohara Yoshihiko and Miyake Ken (V6), Ohno Satoshi, Aiba Masaki, Sakurai Sho, Ninomiya Kazunari and Matsumoto Jun (Arashi), Takizawa Hideaki and Imai Tsubasa, Ikuta Toma, Kohara Yuki and many more.

Highlights
Arashi’s Ohno in one of his early, starring roles as Yoshitsune. Spectacular dance sequences from Johnny’s original dance kings Higashiyama Noriyuki and Akasaka Akira (Hikaru Genji). Tackey and Tsubasa as featured juniors. Little, tiny Toma. Interviews and backstage footage.

Aren’t they adorable? And so little! Some great sempai performances too. I’ve always heard so much about “Johnny’s Four Dance Kings” but this was the first chance I had to watch Higashiyama Noriyuki strut his stuff. And he’s awesome! I searched all over Japan for this one and was very thrilled to finally pick it up.

dear admin,
I downloaded the Megaupload links. At least for me those are right side up ^^ It plays correctly for me in Real Player, Quick Time & VLC. It will not play in Windows Media Player because that doesn’t support .mov files. That’s the extent of the players that I use.

I have a vague memory of this happening to me once before with some clip. Unfortunately, I can’t remember how I fixed it :p If it comes to me, I’ll let you know. For now, my best suggestion would be if this happens, trash your downloaded file & start fresh and doublecheck that your downloaded file size matches up.

pearlsphere, thank you for the lovely comments. I really love these old concerts, and I think Kyotokyo was the forerunner of shows like Enbujou, SHOCK etc. I love the mix of traditional and modern, especially with a hefty dose of dance thrown in. I hope you love it just as much.
