The legend of Urashima TaroThe Japanese press has now released official information on Tackey’s new January 2009 musical Shinshun Takizawa Kakumei (新春滝沢革命 - “Takizawa’s New Year’s Revolution”). The english reading is presumably a play on words, as are most show titles, as in Tackey’s New Year’s Resolution. It’s kinda clever really.

As reported below, the musical opens on January 1st, 2009 in Tokyo’s Imperial Theatre – the home of SHOCK and Dream Boys – and forms the final part of this “trilogy” of theatrical events at the Imperial Theatre from Johnny’s Entertainment.

Shinshun Takizawa Kakumei is an original musical in two acts,. The first act incorporating Japanese folklore such as The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter (竹取物語 - Taketori Monogatari) and The Legend of Urashima Tarou (浦島太郎). In the second act, entitled “Future 2060″, Tackey will appear on stage made up as an 80-year-old man confronting the end of the world. The show will be the first New Year’s Day performance at the Imperial Garden Theater since its reopening in 1966.

Takizawa Kakumei will play 38 performances from Jan 1 - 27.  Ticket prices are the usual ¥8,000 for A seats and ¥12,000 for S seats. The tickets are available through Pia, Playguide and e+ via a series of phone numbers for callers within Japan. You can read more about the phone-in options at the Toho Stage Takizawa Kakumei site, or see more details at the J-net T&T concerts page.

Tackey will also be composing and singing the show’s theme song, which will be released as his first solo CD. The CD will be available for sale at the theatre. This is terrific news. Ever since I first heard the beautiful theme song With Love from this year’s Takizawa Enbujou, it seemed criminal that you couldn’t buy it on CD. Hopefully this move is the beginning of things to come — Tackey and Tsubasa’s wonderful butai music actually released on a CD and for sale at the theatres. Now… all we need is the Soundtrack CD for World’s Wing.

Gambatte Tackey! Yet again, we can be so proud of our talented shachous. But oh dear, the yen has gone WAAAY out of reach of me in the last few days.

I am delighted too that the CD will be available so soon. I think they have been depriving themselves of a good source of revenue by not making these available (not to speak of depriving us of a lot of pleasure).

I also pray and hope they finally release the DVD for Enbujou ‘08. Why on earth do they wait so long to do those things?

You are not alone in watching the rise of the yen with anguish.

    Arrghh! The yen!

On my August trip to Osaka, the Australian dollar was at parity with the yen, so I just tripped around the place happily knocking two zeros off the end of everything and deciding it was cheap. At that time, my lovely rooms in Osaka were $100/night, and the fancy hotel in Tokyo was $165/night including breakfast.

Fortunately, for our big autumn tour of Japan (leaving very soon…) we convinced our friends to pay up front for all our airfares, railpasses, tickets, tours, onsen accommodation etc. Even our yen and traveller’s cheques were all bought ahead of time at a great rate. That’s the good news.

The bad news is that half of our accommodation was still destined for credit card payment at the end of our stay. Our hotel rooms in Tokyo alone have gone up from $2,200 to $3,400 in the space of a few weeks. That’s a huge, scary jump. And every morning I wake up, those rooms get more and more expensive.

I guess we need to keep looking on the bright side, that we have already bought and paid for 85% of this trip.

And I see that Tsubasa’s show now has the large format live photos @ 500yen each. Last year there were nearly 100 of them by the end of the show. I can’t even think about that much money and how much the exchange rate will push that up. Kowaii!

But at least Tackey and Tsubasa are the kings of the stage in Tokyo at the moment, each in their own individual way. I am very very proud of them both.

this currency problem really gives me a major headache, in days pound sterling are falling like the waterfall! and asian currencies are shooting for the moon! i should listen to my dad about selling my pound sterling and buying more asian currencies when pound sterling on his peak in july. now i can’t even dream to go back home or i will lose lots of money during currency exchange i already lost thousands when pound and dollar dropped early this year, and even it bounced back in july, but the figure was still no good and i couldn’t gain back what i lost. now, with this new falling i lost another thousands again! they better do something or i will stay here till i get my money back!

by the way, well said Leaping Lucas! we should be proud of them. they are 26 and 27 years old right now, it’s the right age to move into new level. we should support what is the best for them not only what is the best for us. they shouldn’t stuck in the past forever. let them build their own foundations first like what happened to Kinki Kids and SMAP. Takki is a very influenced guy in Japan, do we want Tsubasa to always be Takki’s shadow? Kinki Kids fans and SMAP fans also used to go through this kind of transition, why can’t we be as supportive? don’t we want T&T become as big as Kinki Kids and SMAP? doesn’t T&T deserve living legends title like Kinki Kids and SMAP?

with the hope that when T&T back as a unit, they’ll present us with better product, let us keep cheering on them. sometime a long wait is better. see what happen to NEWS and ARASHI new singles, really disappoint me, especially Arashi, after the superb Truth, they really disappoint me. yes, they sold a lot but because of the fans, still the quality? now look at Kanjani8’s Musekinin Hiiro… that’s what the eito’s fans got after a very long wait and their limited editions are so juicy with bonuses to die for… may be that will happen to T&T… come out with a very quality product…

Oh love, imagine it being too expensive to even return home. I guess we should all just sit tight and not get crazy.

And Brava love about your comments! I definitely agree.

Yes, there are a lot of murmurings around the net that Tackey’s solo CD and T&T’s individual careers are warning signs for the Unit, but let’s think about this for a minute.

Nobody is gonna pay to see 30 year old pop idols. Teeny pop belongs to the 16-20 year olds. As an artist, you have to nurture your career and follow your dreams.

Tackey and Tsubasa are developing their talents diligently in the areas they excel — Tsubasa with his dancing and Tackey with his showmanship and acting. They are very successful schachous of their own annual stage shows, which we all agree are getting better and better. As a celebrated stage performer, you can be top of your field into your 30s and even 40s. And that just gives strength to Tackey and Tsubasa the unit, because it means that in years to come, a lot like Kinkis and SMAP, T&T will become the beloved singing group that comprises the stars Tackey and Tsubasa, and people will flock to their concerts to see them together, and always have a fond regard for them.

But as a fading pop group who can’t compete with teeny-boppers, they would struggle to maintain their market share.

Tackey and Tsubasa have ALWAYS said that they nurture their individual talents and strengths so they can bring that back to the unit. And I think that is exactly what they are doing by taking the opportunity to build this solid live performance pedigree.

They have both been the top juniors in the Jimusho, they have been a top idol group and now they are becoming top musical performers in their own right. With hard work and intelligent planning, they are building long-term careers for themselves. I think this only ensures their longevity as a unit, not threatens it. Because being the star of your own show is great, but it must always be a warm, familiar feeling to come back to T&T and share the stage with someone just like you, who shares all your experiences.

I definitely agree about Arashi too. Yes they have had 4 singles, but not all of them were “Truth”. Capitalising on their current popularity by rushing out release after release really hasn’t always produced a quality product. I would prefer that T&T can always be proud of the work they do, without having to be in a race with others or even with themselves.

As a T&T fan, I have really been honoured and thrilled to enjoy the quality of their work this year, and am very excited about Tackey’s new show and CD. I certainly hope we can get more of T&T’s gorgeous show soundtracks on CD.

    Aaaaah sdjfdjsjhsgdfh.

“Takizawa’s New Year’s Revolution” sounds good!
Japanese folklore <33 AND, the second act sounds interesting!!
Solo CD!! I hope we’ll get a W2TP soundtrack as well then :) That’d be only fair! I hope I’ll be able to get Tackey’s cd somehow, once the time comes, can’t wait to hear what the theme song sounds like!

    I’m still hoping for a 26 album though! Even though it doesn’t seem very likely that they’d announce it.. XD;;

Kaz, as usual, I think you hit the nail on the head. A certain number of people always want things to stay frozen as they enjoyed them once. But they can’t. We change and age, and so do the performers. And they must adapt and acquire new fans, not just hang on to the hold ones.

As an actor, Tackey has the potential for a long and successful career like those of Watanabe Ken, Tohiro Mifune, and others.

About exchange rates, my conclusion, after a long experience of traveling to Europe and to Asia, is that I can’t win! A lose/lose proposition.

Wow! Thanks for the information and I am really looking forward to going on a trip by January. It must be hard to buy “Takizawa’s New Year’s Revolution” tickets. I hope my dream will come true this time.

I hope Tackey can focus more on TV series than perform those shows because some people tends to forget an idol when one is inactive on screen.

    Pomera,

Yes it’s true. You definitely need to have high profile doramas to stay in the minds of your average viewer. I hope you can get a hold of those tickets. There should be some available on http://www.ticket.co.jp/ later in the year. Have a wonderful trip and I hope the exchange rate is kind to you.
